Belgium’s second biggest city, Antwerp is undoubtedly Belgium’s capital of cool and high culture and offers a plethora of things to see and do. Antwerp is one of Europe’s major centres for fine art and culture The City has been synonymous with cutting edge fashion since the 1980′s – and as a result the city has stores showcasing clothes by new designers and fashion graduates. You will be rewarded with a diverse and avant-garde shopping experience.
It is also a city famed for its wealth and at the centre of this is it’s world famous diamond trade; you can visit Diamond Land, the premier diamond merchants in the city who offer free guided tours. Antwerp was also the home of Rubens, one of the world’s most revered and famous Baroque artists. Visit his house, which is now a premier art gallery and museum, or visit the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art to soak in the city’s rich artistic heritage. Your first impressions of the city will be given at the spectacular looking central rail station which typifies the city as something of a giant architectural art gallery.
Antwerp also has a distinctive and diverse night life. The Zuid District is home to Jazz, Salsa and funky music, with some stylish bars. Alternatively, if you want to rave into the sunrise head to the Noord District, at the forefront of Antwerp’s booming club social scene. Start the night out in the area’s small, trendy bars and party into dawn in the mega-dancefloors of the district’s nightclubs.
