Fancy the Great German Beer, delicious food and the traditional German party atmosphere but without the chaos of Oktoberfest? Try the Stuttgart Volksfest, second only in size to its big brother in Bavaria, the Volksfest has the carnival atmosphere and intimacy that sets it apart from the Oktoberfest.
Held at the Cannstatter Wasen on the banks of the River Neckar, the Volksfest offers a huge variety of German Beers, Black Forest Wines and fine gourmet German food in a more relaxed atmosphere. As with all German Beer Festivals, Volksfest is filled with traditional dress, Oompah bands and huge marquees. In addition to this, the festival also has a carnival, with theme park rides, fireworks, parades and live music in the huge space that is the Wasen.
Festival Tents
There are 10 tents altogether at the festival – 6 beer tents, two wine tents and two food tents – each holding up to 5000 people! Reservations for tables are made with each individual tent. That can be done via the Volksfest website where you can view the tent’s websites individually and decided which one is best for you.
Stuttgart
Home of Mercedes Benz and Porsche, Stuttgart’s rich motoring history belies the fact it is one of the greenest cities in Europe, with its relaxed demeanour, laden with parks, green areas and vineyards – the black forest area is famed for its wine. There are many sights to see in Stuttgart outside of The Volksfest. If you’re a petrol head there are several great places to visit, both Mercedes Benz and Porsche have their headquarters and museums in Stuttgart. Alternatively you explore the beautiful surrounding areas via the Swabian Forest railway or try the local wines.
Stuttgart is a diverse and beautiful city with many places to see and things to do. For further information visit the Stuttgart tourist website.
You will be accommodated at the 4* Royal Hotel at the heart of Stuttgart city centre. The shopping areas as well as the bus and underground stations are just a short walk away.
